This is the last edition of the California Zephyr in my collection. The train would complete its final run on March 22, 1970. With its discontinuance, Western Pacific shed its passenger service entirely and became a freight-only railroad while Burlington combined what remained of its California service with a secondary Chicago-Omaha train. The Denver and Rio Grande portion, however, would continue well into the Amtrak days as the tri-weekly Rio Grande Zephyr.
