This is another in the Union Pacific 1957 Summer Tours series. The Denver & Rio Grande trains shown here were used by several of the Union Pacific escorted tours: The Prospector by tours "YT", "Z" and "YTZ", and the spectacularly scenic Royal Gorge by tours "YRG" and "ZLV" and by tour "RM" from Denver as far as Colorado Springs. No word if the relationship between U. P. and D. & R. G. W. had been strained by the latter's recent decision to operate competitor Burlington's through cars from the Denver Zephyr between Denver and Colorado Springs. Union Pacific, of course, did operate its own trains between Salt Lake City and Denver, but Rio Grande's schedules were more "people friendly", its route was widely recognized as more scenic, and it served the resort destination of Colorado Springs which Union Pacific did not. I presume, since both of these trains were rather light on Pullman accommodations in the equipment list, that UP routed some of the sleeper equipment which had been used in the westbound trains over this route to provide ample accommodation for its tour groups.

This timetable is almost identical to the May 1957 timetable which precedes it, understandably. I was tempted to just use that timetable, but upon reviewing it I caught a couple of errors (Yes, I do make mistakes!) which needed to be corrected. The only real difference between the timetables is the timings at a few of the stations between Denver and Colorado Springs, so the adaptation was easy.
